my holidays in instagram pictures

I squeezed out one more 'Sleep Study' illustration just before Christmas - meet the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel! I've had great response from this one already!! View them all on my Etsy store here.

Welcome back to reality everyone... except for the lucky few who are still on holidays!

The end of 2013 was a crazy whirl of mass Etsy orders and present wrapping. My husband and I (with puppies in tow) spent Christmas and New Years up in Townsville with our families where I made the most of swimming and eating mango. Yes.

Just wanted to share some moments over the last few weeks via my instagram feed. I am on instagram more than anything else these days so please pop over and say hello if you haven't already! @kimmyhogan

Hope your holidays were filled with special moments also :)

The calm before the storm. I treated myself to a coffee and some sort of ridiculously good date cake at 'A Spot for Joe' here in Geelong before I headed home to ship out all my final white with three orders for the year. The sugar and caffeine hit was essential.

As a last minute idea I printed up some postcard-sized dachshund artworks to send as gifts with my Christmas orders! So many tea towels and dachshund prints going out - lets just say there would have been a lot of very happy dog lovers out there at Christmas!

Once my orders were shipped I got my wrap on. This year I used brown paper and gold foil dot stickers (which I bought at Officeworks) to create a polka dot effect. I then made some cute arrow gift tags to finish.

As an early 30th birthday present my husband surprised the beejeezers out of me with this amazing original gouache painting by one of my favourite artists Kirra Jamison. She was the star attraction at The Design Files Open House that I went to in December and could only imagine owning one of her paintings in my wildest dreams! How amazing is my husband? And as an extra treat Kirra regrammed this instagram photo with a little birthday message - EEP!!!!!

I was surprised on Christmas day with this stunning handmade cushion by my sister Katie. She bought the Frida Kahlo fabric then hand stitched detail all over it... it has taken her since March this year to complete! And she has twin girls!! #supermum

On New Year's Day we drove up to my Granny's farmhouse in Cordelia, North Queensland. This side of her house has been a crazy assortment of haphazard pots/plants/weeds for as long as I can remember. I loved being back there. The proof of our childhood is everywhere - even some of our 20 year old chalk drawings are still in the shed!

As a lover of the 7 Vignettes monthly instagram challenge I couldn't resist doing just one vignette to start off the New Year. The theme for this day was 'one'. My caption:
Day One of 2014 - year of the Horse. One baby kicking in my belly. One life changing experience ahead. One of life's greatest miracles. Won't have time to do all 7 Vignettes this month but couldn't resist this one! Happy New Year all 7 Vignetters!!

#regram! I got a lovely surprise on instagram this month when one of my fav instagrammers Mich @thecinnamonfox used one of my dachshund tea towels in her 7 Vignettes entry! This photo was for the tag word 'new'. You must go and check her out on instagram - I spy a 7 Vignettes winner this month!

Last day of my twenties. My husband and I threw a small party to celebrate both of our 30th birthdays while we were up in Townsville. I'm now 26 weeks pregnant and feel like I've won the lottery of life. This kicking little baby in my belly is the greatest thing I could have wished for - best birthday ever!

7 vignettes: july

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day One: Celebration. Thought this approach was a bit left field! I spelled the words 'hooray' in twine and sprinkled colourful confetti all around - it was quite tricky to get right!

This month I participated in yet another 7 Vignettes Competition on Instagram as hosted by Jen Bishop of Interiors Addict. The idea is to take seven pictures over seven days - each day with a new word to inspire the shot. I absolutely loved participating just to see all the amazing entries by other creative ladies. I've had such a big response to my entries and so many lovely comments - I feel like I've made new friends and it's given me the burst of energy I really needed! To see the winner of this month take a look here (just ridiculously good!)

The 7 Vignettes Competition is held from the first day of every month - you can see my last entry (March) here. If you're on Instagram please pop over and say hello @kimmyhogan. Also take a look at @interiorsaddict and #7vignettes for some seriously beautiful entries and lots of talented 7-vignetters to follow!

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Two: Favourite Colour. Yellow for me of course! The two photos are ones I took in South America, the 'Love Something' art is a screenprint I created last year, and the Banana illustration is one of my Etsy prints available here.

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Three: Stationery. I always get such nice compliments on my stationery when sending out art orders for my Etsy store! All orders receive a hand written note and are shipped in a super-cute labeled envelope. The art is my 'Triangles' art print available here.

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Four: Contrasting. I love this nook in my home and there are many contrasts here - the live plant and book of skulls, black and white, black and green, antique and new, hard and soft - and a contrast of cultures being the Mexican skulls, African wood carving and Asian framed menu.

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Five: Winter. This was my most popular entry and you can see why with Rio making an appearance! The amazing Megan Morton even liked this photo - no doubt because her fabulous book 'I love my Room' is sitting in the picture ready for Rio to read!

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Six: Cheerful. Couldn't get much more cheery than my Rainbow Confetti art print assembled with a bright bunch of flowers! This print shown is my big A2 size in an Ikea frame. Print available in a range of sizes here.

7 Vignettes Instagram Competition Day Seven: Cleaning. Now this was a hard one! After mucking around with the obvious cleaning items I decided to go for something a bit more abstract. This one got a lot of likes too. If only all messes were this pretty!

7 vignettes

My photo for Day One: White. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition.
Wowzas - my first Instagram challenge! Jen Bishop of Interiors Addict is the stylish lady behind the 7 Vignettes Instagram Challenge. Each month Jen compiles a list of seven key words (as suggested by participants) and once the competition kicks off you must take a snap each day for seven days inspired by the key word.

A 'vignette' is just a lovely collection of things and of course this competition is interior-inspired! Jen and her guest judge Darren Palmer from The Block have the very difficult task of picking a winner out of hundreds (thousands?) of entrants to win some great prizes. Hear more about the competition here.

When you post a pic on Instagram you simply tag the two judges and #7vignettes so your pic will pop up amongst the other entrants. Please do yourself a favour if you are on Instagram and search for the #7vignettes tag and be dazzled by the amazing pics - the entrants are incredible!

Best of all I've made heaps of new friends whilst participating in this competition and gained around 20 new followers! You can find me on Instagram under @kimmyhogan and be sure to check out @jenbishop_interiorsaddict while you're there. Keep scrolling to see my pics for the other inspired words.

My photo for Day Two: Circles. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition. This pic is inspired by my South American adventure last year with maracas, yellow beaded necklace, photo of a fruit cart and foreign coins all from Colombia.
My photo for Day Three: Paper. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition. This is my desk! I am a hoarder of all lovely design finds which I have placed all over my desk then covered in a clear plastic desk protector - now I can stare at these inspirational pieces all day long!
My photo for Day Four: My Colour Palette. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition. Of course it is Moroccan reds, plush pink velvets and metallic beaded cushions mixed with timber. I absolutely love this vintage Indian photo and frame I found - complete with old inky Hindi script on the back.
My photo for Day Five: Bathroom. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition.
My photo for Day Six: Geometric. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition. The first thing that came to mind was my very own 'Rainbow Confetti' art print - and it was a hit! Even one of the judges Darren Palmer commented 'beautiful' (so chuffed!).
My photo for Day Seven: Upcycled. "7 Vignettes" Instagram Competition. This antique chair is now a bedside table, I use the old bottle as a vase and the old crystal cup as a candle holder.
